Thule Sweden AB, Hillerstorp

Background

Accurate material data is of great importance when it comes to structural simulations.
The objective with this Master Thesis is to propose a cost effective procedure for determining material properties and modelling of new materials in LS-Dyna.

Project

The scope of the project is to answer some of the following questions:

  • Determine the level of material testing necessary in order to accurately model polymer materials in LS-Dyna.
  • Comparison of tensile and flexural (bending) stress-strain relation for commonly used polymers.
  • Examine the unloading behaviour of some commonly used polymers at different strain levels (with/without fibre reinforcement).
  • Examine the hardening behaviour of some commonly used polymers for cyclic loading (hysteresis loop).
  • What are the most suitable material models to use for polymers in LS-Dyna (for explicit and implicit, solids and shells).
    • Modelling and comparison to physical testing using different material models.
    • Material instability at high strains
    • Modelling the unloading behaviour
    • Modelling the cyclic behaviour
    • Modelling time dependent behaviour (creep/stress-relaxation)
    • Modelling strain rate dependent behaviour (for crash applications)

About our Product Development Department:
We have over 120 engineers working in our Product Development Department and to keep the momentum in successful product development innovation, most of our Product Development functions are in-house, such as project managers, industrial designers, concept-, design-, prototype-, simulation- and test-engineers.
Our team consists of highly skilled and motivated members with a well-balanced variety of experiences.
We are a truly global company with an international and multi culturally mixed team. English is the language we use in our daily communication.
We see a great future with continues passion for product development that is so vital for our growth as a company.
We have invested heavily in expansion of our site in Hillerstorp. New offices, more space and a highly equipped Product Development center with a very impressive Global Test Center are investments that we are proud of.
We also try to engage as much as possible in the nearby community to help develop a pulsate and sustainable future. We are proud of our roots and history of being part of the entrepreneurial Gnosjö area. Our investments in new resources, facilities and product development is also a huge investment in the area of Hillerstorp and Gnosjö.

Working at Thule:
We believe in strong teamwork both within your own team but also across teams. We strive to be an open and curious organization, sharing our knowledge and inspiring one another. Within Thule Group you will find people who have a passion for the products we make and the outdoor company we are. We share the same values and we like to have fun. All of our employees have a joint responsibility to maintain that spirit and contribute to it.
