Thule Sweden AB, Hillerstorp

Background

The feeling and response from a Stroller are of great importance from a customer perspective.
In the development process of a Stroller the hard-points are set at an early stage. This will affect the response and feeling of the product and it is very hard to affect in a later stage. By doing simulations in early phases of projects the hard points can be optimized from a handling perspective.
Solidity is also of great importance when it comes to the maneuverability of a stroller. It is thus important to be aware of the stiffness of the product at an early stage when concept decisions are taken.

Project proposal

  • Create a test plan that will be used to gather all the needed data in the coming correlation work.
  • Perform the tests (at the Global Test Department at Thule in Hillerstorp) and in parallel do the FE-simulations in LS-Dyna, with the pre- and post-processor ANSA and MetaPost respectively. Preferably the project start with less advanced static component testing/simulation and then continues with static full model analysis and as a last step dynamic tests/simulations.
  • Proposal of questions to be answered:
    • How well do the simulations correlates with the tests (static/dynamic)?
    • Which simplifications can be done in early phases without loosing too much accuracy
    • How can LS-Opt be used in the best way to optimize the hard-point positions?
  • Output proposal: Develop simulation concept tools where critical response values can be identified for a set of load cases.

About our Product Development Department:
We have over 120 engineers working in our Product Development Department and to keep the momentum in successful product development innovation, most of our Product Development functions are in-house, such as project managers, industrial designers, concept-, design-, prototype-, simulation- and test-engineers.
Our team consists of highly skilled and motivated members with a well-balanced variety of experiences.
We are a truly global company with an international and multi culturally mixed team. English is the language we use in our daily communication.
We see a great future with continues passion for product development that is so vital for our growth as a company.
